Nomad focuses on three main objectives: true portability, a full-size capture arm with effortless maneuverability, and high filtration efficiency. It's the first portable welding fume extractor with a full-size 10-ft capture arm, and it's over 100 lbs. lighter than typical units. Throw it in the back of your pickup, glide it over rough terrain, and slip it through 30" doorways into tight spaces. Nomad handles laser, MIG, TIG, stick, and flux-core welding, so mobile welders and field service crews can show up fully equipped.

Welding produces ultrafine particulate matter in the form of fumes. Nomad comes standard with an oversized 22 m² F9 filter (MERV 16 equivalent) and an integrated steel mesh spark arrestor. You can upgrade to a HEPA filter with 99.995% efficiency at 0.3 micron for stainless steel and other toxic metals. The PAO integrity test validated design holds up in critical environments, and Nomad maintains 100 fpm in the welding zone as required by OSHA 1910.252(c)(3)(i).

FAQ's

How long does each filter generally last?

Unfortunately it’s not one with an easy answer. Life of each filter is greatly dependent on your application(s), materials being processed and hours of daily use.

Heavy wood processing (cutting or engraving) will have a greater impact on the pre-filter life. Due to the sticky residue / particles from wood processing, the pre-filter tends to get saturated quicker whereas the oxy-carbon may last 2 years.

Can I clean the filters regularly, avoiding the need to order new ones?

No. Filtrabox pre-filters and HEPA filters are designed to maximize capture efficiency for ultrafine laser particulates. Compressed air, cleaning agents or other cleaning methods may result in a damaged or inefficient filtration. Our oxy-carbon filters contain a mixture of coconut shell activated carbon and potassium permanganate The adsorption and chemical reactions that take place between the contaminants and the media are not reversible.

How do I know if my filters are good and at what capacity and when to change them?

It starts with reading through our short but complete owner’s manual. If you don’t have a copy, you can download the latest version here. Our 3-steps to maximize filter life document, found here is also recommended. The owner's manual will get you familiar with your specific Filtrabox model, filter location and provide instructions on how to check a few things.

What isn’t noted in the owner's manual is that the Filtrabox air-flow range and filter life remaining feature operates on a scale of 1-100%. If your air-flow setting is set to 40% and if you do a filter check test, you’ll get roughly 60% life remaining, even with brand new filters installed. If the air-flow is set to 60%, filter life remaining will be approximately 40%, even with new filters installed.

The filter check feature is very useful in gauging how much life you have remaining in your filters before replacements are required.
